Deputies with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office, working in conjunction with officers from a number of departments throughout the county, arrested Zachary Cook, 27, and Crystal Marie Arnold, 26, on New Year’s Day after the two individuals went on a mini-crime spree. According to Beech Mountain Police Chief Jay Hefner, the two individuals began their eventful New Year’s by allegedly breaking into vehicles at the Ski Beech Resort where a number of items were found missing from customer’s cars including a credit card.
According to Hefner, the total value of items stolen exceeded $4,000. Officers from Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, and Banner Elk Police Departments caught up with this dynamic duo in Invershield after making purchases on the card at the Banner Elk Exxon. Avery County deputies transported Cook to the Avery County Jail while Arnold was transported to Watauga County.
In addition to their New Year’s enterprise, Arnold and Cook also had a number of warrants for their arrest in Carter County, Tennessee where the two make their home and in other Avery County jurisdictions.
