The High Country, and North Carolina, are in store for a partial solar eclipse on Monday, April 8.
Though not in the path of a total eclipse, our area can still see the experience of a peak of 80-85% of the sun’s light darkened by the moon.
UPDATE – As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service forecast calls for: Today – Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
If you would like a more detailed timeframe of the start and end times for your location, visit https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa?iso=20240408 to find your location in the search bar.
Remember, do not view the eclipse as it is in motion with the naked eye. The only safe moment to look at the eclipse is when the moon completely obscures the sun’s bright face, during the brief period known as totality. Use eclipse glasses with the ISO 12312-2 filter, or build a box pinhole projector as can be seen in this NASA link.
There will be several options to view the eclipse online, WataugaOnline will update those options throughout the weekend, so be sure to check back.
