A fundraiser has been set for a Watauga High School student involved in a severe wreck last week. Alex Weaver, a member of the WHS Marine Corps JROTC , suffered a severe spinal injury in an auto accident on Tues May 16, and faces a long hospitalization and rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta GA, according to Lt. Col. Gerald Harper, the MCJROTC Instructor at WHS.

On Saturday June 10, 2017 from 9:00am-1:00pm at Watauga High School, the WHS Marine Corps JROTC will coordinate a car wash & bake sale fund raising event to benefit cadet Weaver & the Weaver family.  Please bring a donation, have your car cleaned, buy some donuts and baked goods, and enjoy camaraderie in support of the Weaver family.

According to a gofundme page setup, Weaver was on his way to work with a friend, they fishtailed, and flipped. Alex landed on his neck and blacked out. He was then flown to Johnson City Hospital. An update from the page this week says that Weaver has arrived at Shepherd's and has settled in fine. The accident occurred on highway 194 leading to a second accident and the road shutdown for a lengthy amount of time.
