The N.C. Department of Transportation will partner with various communities from the mountains to the coast in 2014 to spread the Watch for Me NC campaign’s message of pedestrian and bicycle safety.

The department received applications earlier this year from areas interested in implementing Watch for Me NC in their own communities. A committee narrowed down the applicant pool, and announced the new partners today. The partners include agencies and organizations within the following counties:

Chowan County/Edenton
Craven County/New Bern
Dare County/ Outer Banks communities
Greensboro/UNC-G and NCA&T
Jackson County/Sylva/Western Carolina University
New Hanover County/Wilmington/UNC-W
Pitt County/Greenville
Stokes County/Danbury
Watauga County/Boone/Appalachian State University

Several existing partners from previous years will continue to work with Watch for Me NC:

Chapel Hill/Carrboro/UNC-Chapel Hill
Durham/Duke/N.C. Central University
Raleigh/N.C. State University
Cary

As campaign partners, these communities will receive assistance with printed and multi-media materials and police officer enforcement training. Additionally, the Highway Research Center at UNC-Chapel Hill will provide technical support with campaign implementation.

The Watch for Me NC campaign is a comprehensive approach to reducing bicycle and pedestrian crashes and fatalities in North Carolina. The campaign uses multi-media strategies to educate motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, and provides resources to law enforcement efforts.
