Watauga County Schools Miss Only Two Snow Days In February 2017

Last Updated on December 24, 2019 4:29 pm

The mild winter continued into February for Watauga County. And though it's not good news for local business that rely heavily on winter weather, it is good news for the Watauga County School system.

Good news meaning if the milder conditions continue then students will see their last day of school for the year in May, as oppose to the usual June release date. For the 7th time since February 1976 the school system missed only two days for the month. Six times there have been only one day missed during the month, and only 2 times have there been no days missed (1982 & 1990).

February followed the trend of January 2017 when only three days were missed and December with no days missed.
