Watauga County Schools Evacuated Due To Bomb Threat

From a statement on the Watauga County Schools website Tuesday morning.

“School buildings have been evacuated in response to a bomb threat against all schools received by the Watauga County Emergency Communications Office. All children and school personnel are safe. Law enforcement will inspect each school to ensure that it is clear of any threats. We anticipate that the buildings will be pronounced safe in time for students and school personnel to return to the buildings to complete the rest of the school day and parents do not need to pick up their children early. We will announce any additional information as soon as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience and support. ”

Watauga schools also sent out an auto call alert with the same information as above. Law enforcement are still searching each school this morning.

9:04am – from CCC&TI fb page “On advice from county officials related to a bomb threat targeting Watauga Schools, the Watauga Campus is closed until further notice.”

9:15am – ASU continues to operate on normal schedule today. From ASU's student newspaper The Appalachian twitter feed “University police say there is no relationship between Appalachian's campus and bomb threat at Watauga County Schools.”

9:16am – CCC&TI Watauga Campus has re-opened and classes will resume at 10:30am per their fb page

9:19am – getting word that at least one school (Mabel) is being allowed to return to their campus. No official word about others yet.

9:21am – getting word now that WHS classes will resume at 9:30am.

Per Watauga schools website – inspection of Watauga High School has been completed and classes at the high school will resume at 9:30 a.m.

9:30am from Boone Police – At approximately 7:30 AM, Boone Police received a nonspecific threat stating there was a bomb inside a Watauga County School. Boone Police and Watauga Sheriff’s Officer officers have responded to all of the schools within the county. All of the schools have been safely evacuated. More information will be released as it becomes available.

From Watauga schools website – UPDATES: The inspections of Watauga High School and Parkway School have been completed and classes at these schools will resume at approximately 9:30 a.m. The inspection of Cove Creek School has been completed and classes will resume there shortly after 9:30 a.m.

From Watauga schools website – The inspections of Hardin Park and Mabel have been completed and classes will resume at these schools at approximately 10:00.

From schools website – The inspections of Bethel and Valle Crucis have been completed and classes will resume there shortly after 10:00. Inspections of Blowing Rock and Green Valley are underway at this time.

All school buildings have been inspected and classes have resumed at all schools as of approximately 10:20 a.m per Watauga Schools website.
