Watauga County Losses Big Part Of Automotive History With Passing Of Two Former Dealers

Two men that had a great impact on the history of automobile sales in Watauga County passed away this week, just days apart.

John Cook, the owner of Johnson-Cook Ford and John Cook Subaru, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 85. James Watson, the owner of Watson's Garage Auto Dealership and co-owner of Toyota of Boone and Boone Kubota, passed away on Thursday at the age of 89.

Cook, along with his wife Rose, owned his two dealerships from 1969 until 2004. Watson's dealership was also a long time fixture in Boone, located on highway 105. Both men passed away at The Foley Center at Chestnut Ridge in Blowing Rock.

Funeral Services  for John Cook will be held on Saturday January 14 at 1pm at Greenway Baptist Church. Funeral services for James Watson will be conducted on Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2017 at 2pm at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.
