Traffic impacts will continue along Brownwood Road, highway 421 and New River Road as work progresses on the Town of Boone water intake project.
On Brownwood Road, paving is scheduled to begin on Friday as crews continue to lay pipe moving around 100’/day, according to an update from Town Manager John Ward. The crew working that area have encountered some rock and bad soils which has slowed productivity some, the update says. The road has not opened to weekend traffic due to NCDOT and subcontractor liability concerns.
Along highway 421, rock has slowed progress somewhat. The update says that the barrier wall has been relocated near the Chevy dealership drive. The closure is anticipated until mid-May. The trenchless jack and bores under 421 and drives will start next week.
Along New River Road, a crew will move in the first week in May. Pipe and survey work will begin next week. A road closure will occur along New River Hills from 421 back to the bridge. Prep work will begin and pipe installation will start in mid-May.
On Feb. 13, 2017 the Harper Corporation and Garney Construction Company, Inc. were provided with the Notice to Proceed on the Boone Water Line, Water Treatment Plant, Intake and Booster Pump Station Project. The following is a project update:
