Last Updated on April 10, 2017 6:48 pm

After an extremely mild winter, it may be safe to say that we are fully into Spring as temperatures topped out above 70 for the first time this year. The Watauga Medical Center reporting station reached 71.6 degrees just before 4pm on Monday.

It's not record setting territory however, as temperatures have reached 70 or above by April 10th every year since 2005 with the exception of 2016 which narrowly missed the mark. Overall for the month this is the 17th warmest April so far since 1980.

Though the month may not be setting records, the year to date is on pace to. As of April 8, this is the 5th warmest year since 1980 for average temperature at 39.9 degrees. The years 1990 (42.9), 2012 (41.3), 1989 (40.5) and 1991 (40.2) hold the top four positions.
