Fire crews from Stewart Simmons, Deep Gap, the North Carolina Forest Service and the Watauga County Fire Marshal's office battled a blaze in the Triplett community on Monday.

The fire, at 5035 Elk Creek Road, was dispatched late Monday afternoon after a brush fire became out of control. The fire then spread to an out building before spreading into the woods, according to Jay Kerley with the Watauga County Fire Marshal's office.

Kerley tells WataugaOnline.com that about an acre burn before fire crews were able to fully extinguish the blaze.
