Sexual Assault Reported On Appalachian Campus As Semester Begins

On August 23, 2017, at approximately 3:00 am, a female student reported to University Police that she was sexually assaulted by a male acquaintance inside a residence hall room, according to a statement from Appalachian. The suspect reportedly gained access to the residence hall on the pretext of charging his cell phone. The crime occurred on Saturday, August 19, 2017. University Police are investigating.

The suspect is not affiliated with Appalachian State University.

The university is providing resources and support to assist the student who reported this incident, and will continue to take actions to maintain the safety and security of the campus community.
