A second truck wreck in less than a month occurred this week just across the Watauga County line on highway 421. Early Tuesday morning, around 1am,  a 2002 Freightliner truck wrecked into one of the runaway truck ramps heading down 421/Wilkes mountain.

The truck was coming down the mountain when the brakes went out, a fire official tells the Wilkes Journal Patriot newspaper. The driver, Robert McClure age 35, of Rosewell Georgia, was transported to Wilkes Regional Medical Center. He was not seriously injured according to the report.

This marks the second wreck in that area for the month of November. Earlier in the month a driver was killed, and his passenger injured, when a truck pulling a bobcat overturned into one of the runaway truck ramps. That accident occurred on Friday November 6 around 2pm.

In July an overturn tractor and trailer in the same area resulted in that section of 421 to be closed for about an hour and half, and in June a tractor and trailer crashed just before the county line on the Watauga side.
