Possible Scam Alert – Mobile Meat Salespersons Return To The County

Last Updated on September 15, 2017 8:26 pm

Some social media users living in Watauga are noting the return of mobile meat salespersons locally.

Several sightings of Capital Meats Incorporated vans have been reported on social media in the last few days. Several reports noted the aggressive sales methods used by the van drivers.

The company recently entered into a settlement agreement with the Commonwealth of Virginia, according to the Better Business Bureau. The agreement, “resolves allegations that the business violated the Virginia Consumer Protection Act and the Virginia Home Solicitations Sales Act by allegedly misrepresenting their products and failing to give consumers proper notice regarding their right to cancel an order within the three day “cooling off” period provided by law.” The business is not accredited with the Better Business Bureau.  The website Complaints Board also list several negative reactions about the company's practices.

In 2016 WataugaOnline.com also made local residents aware of another company, Steaks Express, going door to door with aggressive sales tactics.

Also in July, social media users noted the return of a controversial “country rap artist” street team to the area. In an article first published in 2016, and updated in 2017, WataugaOnline.com let readers know of the high pressure sales methods being used by the street team.

As always if you feel there is a possible scam happening report it to the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office or Boone Police.
