UPDATE Tuesday 10:34am – 221 is back open.
221 north from 421 south will be closed starting this evening from 6pm through the overnight. Watauga County Assistant Fire Marshall Taylor Marsh tells WataugaOnline.com that a natural gas line has been uncovered, but there are no threats regarding fire or explosion.
Traffic will be detoured onto Brownwood Road to Cranberry Springs. Tractor and trailers will have to take highway 16. More updates coming as needed.
