Former North Carolina State Senator Steve Goss passed away Monday evening, according to the Jefferson Post. Goss was 65 years old and had been fighting a brief battle with cancer.
Before going into politics, Goss was an ordained Southern Baptist minister, teacher and football coach in the area.
Goss served Alexander, Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes Counties for two terms, 2007-2010.
As of  Monday funeral arrangements were incomplete.
