A downed power line that caught fire was the culprit for extended delays on highway 421 in Wilkes County on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred in the Pulear community, located at the base of 421/Wilkes mountain, in the Pumpkin Run Road area. Both northbound and southbound lanes were blocked for a considerable amount of time starting in the 3pm hour. Traffic was able to resume normal flow in the 5pm hour.
