Meat Camp/Pottertown Response

Getting a lot of questions via facebook/twitter about medical/emergency response in Meat Camp/Pottertown area. Due to a gunshot wound a helicopter is being dispatch to Elk Knob Park for a transport.

New information from Watauga Democrat – A man was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center on Thursday night after suffering a gunshot wound in Todd, according to the Watauga County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement and rescue agencies were dispatched at about 8:30 p.m. to the area of 996 South Road in Todd, a location off Meat Camp Road near the Tennessee line.
By 9 p.m., Wings Air Rescue had landed near the scene of the incident to pick up the injured patient, whose identity has not yet been released.
Sheriff Len Hagaman said it was “too early for details” and would not provide any further information immediately following the report, other than to confirm that investigators were on scene.

March 30 Update – Sheriff Len D. Hagaman, Jr. reports that on March 29, 2012, at 8:01 PM Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to a shooting at 996 South Road, Todd.

Officers from the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office responded to 996 South Road and found a white male with a gunshot wound to the head area. The victim was taken by helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center.

Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Unit responded to 996 South Road and conducted an investigation.

As a result of the investigation the following person was charged and arrest for Second Degree Murder: Thomas James Laing, 57,< of 996 South Road Todd, NC Thomas James Laing was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a $300,000.00 secured bond and a court date of May 17, 2012. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of family.
