Local School Systems At The Finish Line For Calendar Year 2016-17

Summer break is almost here for local school districts in Northwestern North Carolina, as a neighboring system across the stateline will dismiss next week.

Johnson County Tennessee schools will release on May 18, meanwhile back across the mountains Ashe County's last day of school for students is Wednesday May 31.

Watauga County will wrap up the year on Thursday June 1. The capping and award ceremony for WHS is set for 4:30 p.m. on May 18 at the Watauga High School gym. A baccalaureate service for seniors will be offered at 5 p.m. May 21 at Boone United Methodist Church. Senior scholarship awards will be presented in the Watauga High School Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. on May 23. Senior breakfast will be held from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the Holmes Convocation Center at ASU with graduation practice to follow. The graduation ceremony is set for 10am on Saturday, June 3 at the Holmes Convocation Center.

Avery County's last day for students is Friday June 2.
