A local aerial company has been nominated for awards to be presented in New York City this weekend.

Nelson Aerials Productions, based out of Boone, is nominated for three awards at the 4th annual New York City Drone Film Festival. The festival is the world's premiere festival focusing on short films shot 50% or more with drones.

Jordan Nelson, Founder/Owner of Nelson Aerials, tells WataugaOnline.com, “Personally I’m amazed at how far my work has taken me and the opportunities it has given me to travel and see the world. From documenting some flooding in Valle Crucis in 2013 to being hired to film the implosion of the Georgia Dome has been humbling. Professionally it gives me motivation to continue to push myself and my work to stay at the top of the industry and that requires getting the latest and greatest in drone technology.”

The video, titled The Boom, is nominated in the X-Factor Category.

Two photos are also up for awards. A photo called “The Last of the Dome” was taken directly above the Georgia Dome as it was being imploded November 20, 2017. The other nominated photo was taken July 4, 2017 and Nelson calls it “God’s View of Independence Day”. Nelson said about the photo, “I had taken many photos over the years of fireworks from the sides but never directly above, it was all about timing.”
