Linemen Continue To Work On Restoring Power This Morning

Last Updated on May 6, 2013 7:05 am

Linemen with Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation are responding to outages this morning primarily in Watauga and Ashe counties caused by trees on power lines and broken power poles.

Days of heavy rain have loosened soil and tree roots, causing large trees outside of the cooperative’s right of ways to fall into power lines. Currently, 487 Watauga County members are without power while 63 Ashe County members are affected.

Linemen worked throughout the night restoring scattered outages cross Watauga, Ashe and Caldwell counties, including the largest outage that resulted from a tree on a power line in Watauga County that affected more than 5,000 members from around 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Members are encouraged to report outages by calling the cooperative’s PowerLine at 1-800-448-2383. Members are also advised to stay far away from downed power lines as they can still be energized! Members are encouraged to call any Blue Ridge Electric district office to speak to a member services representative to report the location of a downed power line.

To check outage status at any time, visit Blue Ridge Electric's online outage map at www.BlueRidgeEMC.com, where outage preparedness and safety tips can also be found. Updates are also available on the cooperative’s social media sites at: www.facebook.com/blueridgeemc and www.twitter.com/blueridgeemc.
