UPDATE Thursday 11:19am – Sheriff Hagaman has provided an update. He tells WataugaOnline.com that, ” I think it would be safe to say that all preliminary investigations and interviews show that it was an accidental discharge and that there will be no criminal charges in this incident. The victim is still in the hospital and will be receiving further medical treatment. “
The investigation into a shooting along highway 421 in Deep Gap continues.
According to scanner dispatches at the time, a 70-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach. The victim was airlifted out.
Len Hagaman, Watauga County Sheriff, tells WataugaOnline.com that the situation is still under investigation.
