Four Charged In Meth Bust in Avery

Deputies with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested four individuals Saturday after reportedly observing them in the midst of a methamphetamine deal. The four people were Denise Donell Andrews, 32; Travis Wayne Carpenter, 26; William Wayne Carpenter, Sr., 60; and Christine Harmon, 52, all of Newland.

William Carpenter was recently released from the Avery County Detention Center on charges of allegedly operating a clandestine methamphetamine lab in his home on Miller’s Gap Highway. Andrews and William Carpenter were both charged with Possession of Methamphetamines, which is a felony in North Carolina, along with a misdemeanor charge Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both Harmon and Travis Carpenter were both charged with misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

William and Travis Carpenter were able to make bond and have a court date in Avery County District Court in December, while Andrews and Harmon both remain in custody awaiting their first appearance in court.
