Four Arrested In Avery County On Drug Charges

The Newland Police Department in Avery County has announced the arrest of four people on multiple drug charges.

On January 25, 2018 the department, with assistance from the Avery County Sheriff’s Office, executed two search warrants within Newland.  The department had been receiving information about drug activity at both of the residences and was finally able to develop enough probable cause to obtain search warrants.  “Although there was not great quantities of drugs found at these houses, it is the principle that we are not going to accept people using homes in Newland for the sale and use of dangerous drugs”, said Newland Chief Byron Clawson. 

Arrested and charged at one residence were Natasha Sells (32) and Greg Sells (36).  Both were charged with Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Dwelling for the use of Drugs, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Arrested and charged at the other residence were Kisha Cook (32) and Travis Benfield (39).  Both were charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Dwelling for the use of Drugs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The Newland Police Department encourages all citizens to report any suspicious activity to the Newland Police.
