Flood Warning In Effect Until 4:30 Today – Friday Dec 28, 2018

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Flood Warning for…
Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…
Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…

* Until 430 PM EST Friday

* At 731 AM EST, Rainfall of 1 to 2 inches has fallen across much of
Watauga and Ashe counties during the last 12 hours. The ground is
completely saturated from recent and repeated rainfall events. A
large area of moderate to heavy rainfall will continue to move
across this region over the next several hours. Creeks and streams
within the warned area are rising quickly and some will reach and
exceed flood stage today. Additionally, flooding of poor drainage,
low-lying, and normally flood prone areas can be expected. Some
roads may become flooded and impassable later this morning as the
rainfall continues.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Boone…
Jefferson…
West Jefferson…
Blowing Rock…
and Beech Mountain.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the
warned area over the next 4 to 6 hours.

This includes the following streams and drainages…
North Fork New River…
South Fork New River…
Darnell Creek…
Ripshin Branch…
Mulberry Creek…
Watauga River…
and Vanderpool Creek.

This includes The following Location Appalachian State University.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
