Fatal Crash Involving Moped & Tractor Trailer Closes Section Of 421 In Boone

An accident involving a moped and tractor trailer closed the northbound lanes of 421 North from Highway 194 to New Market Blvd for several hours on Tuesday. The accident occurred at 11:37am, with Boone Police, Fire, and Watauga Medics responding to the intersection on East King Street and NC Hwy 194 for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a moped and a tractor-trailer.

On Tuesday afternoon Boone Police confirmed that one person, the male operator of the moped, was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the tractor-trailer was not injured. Boone Police traffic accident re-constructionists, aided by North Carolina State Troopers from the Motor Carrier Division conducted an investigation to establish the facts of the collision.

On Wednesday afternoon Boone Police released the name of the moped driver, Justin Dempsey Shook, 32 years-of-age, of Boone.  Boone Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
