Early Morning Earthquake Near Blowing Rock

A 2.1 magnitude earthquake was registered 2 miles ENE of Blowing Rock at 1:57am Saturday morning according to USGS.

Comments into the Watauga Roads facebook page first came in just after 2am reporting the shaking and rumbling sound. No damage has been reported via social media.

This is the second time in less than a year that an earthquake epicenter was recorded near Blowing Rock. The last time was August 25, 2013.

Before today the most recently felt earthquake in the High Country was a 4.1 earthquake centered in Edgefield, South Carolina on February 15, 2014.

Shocks were also felt locally from earthquakes in Kentucky on November 10, 2012, and in Virginia on August 23, 2011.
