A tractor and trailer that caught fire resulted in extended delays for motorists on 321 south of Blowing Rock on Wednesday. The fire, near Kirby Mountain Road, started due to overheating brakes on the big rig according to media reports.
321 was closed entirely for a time shortly after the incident around 7am, but crews were able to open up one lane and the eventually two lanes to allow traffic to flow. The road reopen completely in the 2pm hour. The driver was from out of state and unfamiliar with the road, according to one media report.
