CowBelle Cyclists To Ride Through Watauga, Ashe & Johnson County On Saturday

Last Updated on December 24, 2019 4:20 pm

The 2nd annual CowBelle Classic will take to some area roads on Saturday.

The CowBelle Classic is a women’s only cycling event organized by the Boone Area Cyclists Club.  Women of all ages and abilities are invited to ride in a non-competitive, social environment. By providing mentoring for new riders, their goal is to expand the community of women cyclists in the region. Fully supported ride – water/aid stations, mechanic available, sweeper car at the end, no rider left behind.

One hundred and fifty riders will depart from the Old Cove Creek School in Sugar Grove at 8:00 a.m. All riders travel Old 421 to Zionville and then split into four different routes of 15, 18, 35 and 64 miles. Routes were chosen by considering the difficulty of the terrain and average traffic volume. All routes enjoy some of the most beautiful countryside that the High Country offers.

Motorists are asked to be aware of cyclists on the roads and cyclists entering and exiting Rest Stops. Pet owners are encouraged to secure pets for the pet's safety as well as the cyclists.  Watauga County Law Enforcement will be monitoring several locations for the safety of the participants and for traffic control.
