Boone Tops 80 Degrees Wednesday, Cooler Temperatures On The Way

The calendar says Fall but outside it felt more like the heart of Summer on Wednesday, as temperatures hit 80 degrees across Watauga County.

Though not used for official temperature records, the Watauga Medical Center reporting station recorded 80 degrees during the entire 3pm hour and then again during the last half hour of 4pm. This is the second time during the month Boone recorded 80 degrees, the last time this past Saturday after just missing the mark on Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says that cooler temperatures are on the way, with forecast highs in the lower 70s for Thursday, upper 60s for Friday, mid 60s Saturday through Monday.

The Top 5 highest temperatures for September 27, according to the State Climate Office, are:

86 in Boone in 1939

81 in Boone in 1933

80 degrees in Blowing Rock in 1958

80 degrees in Boone in 2007 and 1998

The all time highest temperature during the month of September is 92 degrees on Sept 5th & 6th 1954.
