Boone Police Respond To Suicidal Man With A Knife

Boone Police responded on Wednesday to a location just outside of downtown Boone to a report of a man armed with knife threatening to harm himself.

At 10:10 am police responded to the parking lot of 1469 W King Street, where officers made contact with the man and began crisis intervention steps in an attempt to calm him.  Additional officers evacuated nearby residences.  After approximately one hour the man was taken into custody and transported to Watauga Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.  The man did suffer a minor self-inflicted laceration, according to police. 

The identity of the man is not being released.
