Boone Fork Foot Bridge Closure Impacts Trail Access

Last Updated on June 1, 2018 11:38 am

The Boone Fork foot bridge on the Tanawha Trail, located at the Boone Fork Overlook near Milepost 300 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, is closed until further notice. The closure is due to storm damage causing a partial undercutting of the bridge pier.

Trail access at the overlook is varied, and as follows:

  • All trails leading south from the overlook are inaccessible; there are no reroutes around the foot bridge.
  • Trails to Grandfather Mountain State Park remain closed due to storm damage (including the Nuwati and Cragway trails).  Contact Grandfather Mountain State Park for updated trail conditions and closures.
  • The Tanawha Trail to the north remains open. Hikers may still access the Tanawha Trail from Ravens Rocks, Rough Ridge Area and Price Park Campground.
