Blue Ridge Energy Program “Beat The Peak” Begins To Help Reduce Power Costs

Last Updated on March 26, 2018 3:48 pm

Lenoir, NC –  It’s true: time IS money when it comes to using electricity! Blue Ridge Energy is rolling out a new, free program to help members join together and hold down electric costs for all members.

The program is called “Beat The Peak” and the term refers to peaks in electricity usage created when people are using the most electricity all at once. Actions members take to shift or reduce their electricity consumption during these few critical hours can help hold down power costs for all members. Peaks typically occur on the very hottest summer afternoons—or the coldest winter mornings.

Beat The Peak also helps maximize other efforts by the cooperative to hold down wholesale power costs and keep rates and electric bills low.

      How can you help?

First, sign up for Beat The Peak alerts that Blue Ridge Energy will send in advance of a peak usage period. Sign up today for text or email alerts at www.BlueRidgeEnergy.com/BTP.

Secondly, when you receive an alert, prepare for you and your household to reduce electricity usage during the peak period. Most helpful are:

  • Adjust your thermostat a few degrees
  • Wait to run large appliances like clothes dryers, washing machines and dishwashers
  • Turn off all unnecessary lights
  • Reduce hot water usage

The more members who sign up and help Beat The Peak, the more all members can benefit from lower power costs. Sign up today at www.BlueRidgeEnergy.com/BTP.

Blue Ridge Energy serves some 75,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany counties as well as parts of Alexander, Wilkes and Avery counties.
