Bitter Cold Temperatures To Remain In The Area Through First Week Of 2018

UPDATE Friday December 29, 2017 8:35 pm – In an update from the National Weather Service, wind chills indices for northwestern North Carolina may drop into the -5 to -10 range for several hours Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings, especially across the higher elevations. Wind chill readings may fall as low as -15 to -20 Friday morning of next week.


Bitterly cold temperatures will be the weather story to usher in 2018.

In a Thursday briefing the National Weather Service stated that a cold front moving in this weekend will bring temperatures down to their lowest levels in several winters.

Forecast highs for Friday and Saturday are in the 30s before dropping into the 20s Saturday afternoon. 20s for Sunday, teens for New Year's Day, 20s for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Forecast lows in the teens for Saturday night, around 10 above for Sunday night, 5 to 10 above for Monday night and Tuesday night.

Wind chills from zero to as low as 10 below are forecast for Friday morning and Saturday night through Tuesday night at least.
