Avery County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Help In Locating Missing Man

*UPDATE Sunday June 26 – On Saturday afternoon the Avery County Sheriff's Office posted the following update:

“It is with great sadness we relay the following. The missing person, Sean Kress, we were looking for has been found deceased. There will be details at a later time but please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers and please also respect their need for healing and privacy. Since Wednesday over 100 Emergency Management, rescue, fire and law enforcement personnel from Avery and surrounding counties spent nearly 1000 man-hours trying for a better outcome. Thanks to all those wonderful servants who gave of their time and energy.”


The Avery County Sheriff’s Office is requesting help in locating Sean Michael Kress of 1450 Little Buck Hill Road.

Mr. Kress is 27 years of age, and has a medical condition that causes seizures, and needs to take regular medication. Mr. Kress is around 6 feet tall, 190 lbs. he has brown hair, blue eyes and is currently clean shaven. He was last seen on Tuesday, 6/21/2016, around 7 am at his residence on Little Buck Hill Road.

Mr. Kress was last seen wearing a Baxter’s blue employee shirt and blue pants, along with boots. Mr. Kress left the residence without taking his medicine and without a wallet or cell phone but may have taken a firearm.
