Avery County Sheriff Deputies Credited With Saving A Life

Last Updated on March 3, 2018 7:48 pm

Two Avery County Sheriff Deputies are being credited with saving a life.

Deputies Tim Austin and Isaiah Aldridge, along with social worker Cassie Barnett, were having lunch on Tuesday when the situation unfolded. Barnett told Spectrum News reporter Rose Eiklor that after eating two bites of fries she could feel it not going down. She walked toward the bathroom and realized she could not breathe.

The quick actions by the deputies dislodged the food and she was once again able to breath.

The deputies in just the last two weeks had received new training on using defibrillators, Narcan, CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, according to the Avery County Sheriff's Office.

Barnett says that the deputies, “are heroes, they're angels”.
