Art Kohles Former Highway Patrolman For Watauga County Passes

A longtime North Carolina Highway Patrolman for Watauga County passed away over the weekend.

Arthur Webber ‘ART’ Kohles, age 68, of Meat Camp Road, passed away Saturday evening, May 5, 2018 at Watauga Medical Center, according to Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Kohles was a US Army Special Forces Veteran, having served two tours of Duty in Vietnam. After his military service Art joined the NC Highway Patrol and was stationed in Whiteville, NC and Boone.

He retired after 30 years of service. Art was a lifelong Episcopalian and was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Boone. He was a chalice bearer at St. Luke’s and enjoyed working on the Chapel. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed learning about the history of his native Texas.

A celebration of life service for Art Kohles will be conducted Wednesday evening, May 9th, at 6 o’clock at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, officiated by the Rev. Cyndi Banks. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 130. A reception will follow services at the church.

The family respectfully requests no flowers and suggests memorials to the Chapel Fund at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 170 Council Street, Boone, NC 28607.
