The first “BIG Sale” and “Don’t Throw It Away” projects, were started by student Natalie Knight ’03 in 2000. Appalachian has donated close to $200,000 in proceeds from the BIG Sale to local non-profits.
This year, an estimated 68 tons of material were diverted from the landfill in May because of “Don’t Throw It Away.”
