The Parkway is closed heading north just past the old 421 exit near Parkway School. This is the same part that was closed due to the rock slide earlier in the year.
UPDATED 4:45pm Thursday May 31, 2018: Flash Flood Warning is CANCELLED for Watauga as of 4:42pm. Flood Watch Remains until 8pm.
Parkway School will dismiss at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, May 31 due to a water main break in the school’s well house. Watauga County Schools maintenance crews are onsite, and school is expected to resume normal operation by tomorrow.

7:34am Friday May 18 – ALERT – Blowing Rock Road from Rivers Street to Wendys is going to be shut down according to scanner dispatches. Also Faculty Street behind the Holmes Center.
7:07am Friday May 18 – A water main has busted in the area of Hardee’s/Holmes Center, according to scanner dispatches. Expect lot of water and possible delays in the area.

4:44pm Thursday May 17 – US Hwy 221 south in Fleetwood expected to open back up sometime late this evening. However it will be closed from 8:30 am until noon tomorrow (May 18) between Paul Goodman Road and Watertank Road for additional work, according to Ashe County Emergency Management.

* At 7 AM Tuesday the stage was 6.9 feet...and rising rapidly. Moderate flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Flood Stage is 6.0 feet.
* Impact...at 6.0 feet...Flooding on portions of Watauga River road begins.
* Flood history...this crest compares to a previous crest of 6.9 feet on Apr 24 2017.
