5:22pm Final 421 Update – It appears the work to fix the gas line has worked and the road is back open totally and without any more issues.

UPDATE 2:42pm  – Intersection of 421/Bamboo is back open for now as crews work on a patch for the line. Should the patch not hold then the intersection will be closed again.

UPDATE 1:23pm – Hwy 421 will remain closed at least through this evening, according to Boone Police. All detours are still in place.

At 613 AM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located near Hampton, moving east at 45 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with this storm.

This includes The following Location Appalachian State University.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

UPDATED 4:45pm Thursday May 31, 2018: Flash Flood Warning is CANCELLED for Watauga as of 4:42pm. Flood Watch Remains until 8pm.

Parkway School will dismiss at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, May 31 due to a water main break in the school’s well house. Watauga County Schools maintenance crews are onsite, and school is expected to resume normal operation by tomorrow.

7:07am Friday May 18 – A water main has busted in the area of Hardee’s/Holmes Center, according to scanner dispatches. Expect lot of water and possible delays in the area.

* Flood Stage is 6.0 feet.
* Impact...at 6.0 feet...Flooding on portions of Watauga River road begins.
* Flood history...this crest compares to a previous crest of 6.9 feet on Apr 24 2017.

High Wind Warning in effect from 6pm tonight until Saturday morning. Northwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph or stronger at higher elevations.

Monday December 18 2:42pm – Highway 321 in Caldwell County is reopened in both directions after dump truck accident closed it earlier today.

Monday December 18 12:43pm – Major delays on 321 heading down the mountain into Caldwell County. Dump truck wreck has the area closed at 321/Richlands Road. Expected to take several hours to clean up.

Friday December 8, 2017 – Due to the likelihood for snow and ice covered roads today, schools in Watauga County will be closed for students.  It will be an Optional Teacher Workday.  The Holiday/ Snowday Program at HP is scheduled to open at 7:30A.
