Another Part Of Watauga County History Closing Next Week

Last Updated on July 18, 2013 8:11 pm

Another big part of the history of Watauga County will closed the doors next week. The parent company that owns and operates Southern States announced this week that it will close the Boone store. Long time residents and locals recall it as FCX in 80s & 90s before the name change.

On facebook the fondest memories being expressed are:

hearing the chickens (diddles) making noise in the back, the staff knowing you by name and already knowing what you needed to stock up on, and always a warm smile and greeting from Dennis and Grady in the feed room.

This closing follows on the heels of TRW/IRC, another long time company, leaving the area and the building being demolished ending another chapter of Watauga County employment history.
