Accident Involving Motorcycle And Automobile Closes Portion Of 421 For A Time Friday

Update Sunday March 26 –  The identities of two motorcycle riders in Friday's wreck have been released. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Donald and Carolyn Kluttz, of Lincolnton NC, were struck by a juvenile driver trying to turn onto old 421. The report says that the female, driving a Subaru, was heading south and tried to turn left. She then hit the motorcycle after she was unable to see around another vehicle that was in the northbound turn lane.

Carolyn Kluttz was killed in the accident, Donald Kluttz was flown to Johnson City Medical Center with multiple injuries.


An accident involving a motorcycle and another automobile lead to lane closures and road closures with major delays on 421 just outside of Boone. The accident, reported just after 5pm, was located at the intersection of 421 and old 421 near Food Lion, and lead to two medical helicopters being dispatched to the scene.

As of early Friday evening no other details were immediately available from officials. The road reopen completely just before 7pm.
