A two vehicle accident near the Vilas Post Office lead to the closure of 421 for a time, as fire officials worked to clear the scene. The accident, first dispatched out around 4:30pm, involved a passenger car and an SUV according to Steve Marks with Cove Creek Fire Department. Two patients were transported to Watauga Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
The decision to close down that section of 421 was due to the location of the accident and for firefighter and EMS safety, Marks added. The road was totally reopen just before 6pm.
